Wanting to go to Duxford....

Im wanting to plan a trip to Duxford next year to see one of their airshows. Ive never been to England but I figured someone on here has been a few times. Any suggestions on where to stay...Do's or DONTS???

I am sure there are more experienced people here than I that can answer this question. Having said that I made a one day visit in 2004 (now where near enough time). My wife and I were staying in London and we took a train from London in the morning to Cambridge, then public transit (bus) to Duxford and still go there before the doors opened. London will certainly give you a wide choice of accomodations, entertainment and restaurants in the evening. However, maybe Cambridge has it's charms, I don't know.

When I went to England I did the same as Mike. Public Trans is great over there! I'm not sure how it is to get in and out for the airshow weekend, but There are those here that do.

I would love someday to head over for a show, but being it is the same weekend as the Geneseo Airshow and a bit further to get to and a bit more costly I think I'm sticking to the Geneseo one for now. :wink:

I tried the commute-from-London thing in 2000 for Flying Legends. It was okay for Saturday, but on Sunday they run a lot fewer trains and the first one for Duxford departed much later in the morning. So if you're thinking about a weekend, check the schedules before choosing this option. If I do it again I'll stay locally at least Saturday night.

Elroy, if you're going specifically for a show then it's best to book up very early in one of the Travelodges near to Duxford. The ones at Cambridge Fourwentways and Cambridge Central are both good. Fourwentways is usually booked up for Legends weekend by early in March.

There are bound to be fellow enthusiasts who can offer a lift into the show. I'm happy to offer a lift if I'm staying in the area during the show that you choose to attend.

If you appreciate the finer things in aviation and you're in the country for a week or so, don't miss out on the shows at the Shuttleworth Collection, it's only half an hour from Duxford by car.

Thanks Robbo!! Is the Legends show always around the same time of year? Im also wanting to go to Framlingham and Normandy.

Yes, Flying Legends is usually the same weekend each year. Next year's date should be confirmed fairly soon.
