I'm reminded of an interesting book by Sir Gordon Taylor called The Sky Beyond. During WWII they were scouting out Pacific islands for possible use as air bases. They became stuck on an island with 2 Catalina's during a hurricane. One Catalina had a sufficient anchor (an old truck chassis) to keep it from blowing into the rocks but the other Catalina wasn't as well anchored. The flight engineer climbed aboard and when the plane started to drag its anchor he fired up the motors and manipulated the throttles and controls for seven hours to keep the plane in place. Both planes and all crew survived the storm.
