How much would I expect to pay for an old Ranger engine, the inline model? It would be nice if it would run, but I don't need it to be airworthy.

Is there a site anywhere that I can read up on them? I found a couple pics through google, but nothing that great.

FYI

I have two Rangers currently for sale

One is complete except for the starter 3200.00, the other is a core engine / no accessories 2300.00.
Both are out of RCAF Farchild Cornells Also have an extensive inventory of Cornell parts

What is the expected TBO of a Ranger?

My plan is to recreate a Model A roadster dry lakes car that was built in the '40s. Guess it will need to be more of a longer term goal then.

What does "all the accessories" entail, and how many of them would be relavant to my application?

I know they are dry sump, which is why they can be run "upside down."

I'm looking for one for my F-24.

"Time Between Overhaul"

I also have 2, one is complete with all accessories and prop. Would be great for hard to find parts. No papers and a little weathered. $1000 for pair. I have pictures.

All accessories means that magnetos , exhaust system , carb, engine mounts are all on the engine . Basically this engine was unnbolted at the firewall and removed.
TBO = TIME BEFORE OVERHAUL

Sorry about the delay in response Brandon. Just catching up on my reading after Thunder Over Michigan.

I have been told by the restorers/engine overhaulers I do business with, that historically, Rangers were expected to go 500-600 hours TBO, but with the current engine rebuilding techniques that the overhaulers use, one can see up to 800 hours before TBO now.

Thanks Steve. I had heard 400 hours, but I couldn't imagine the guys with the Fairchilds living with that. Even 900 hours is still pretty low.

If this would help you to get your project moving, I would be glad to sell you one of the Ranger cores that I have, for a couple hundred bucks.

Since I am not in Texas, and won't be back for a while, this would give you plenty of time to consider the offer, time and distance, and so on.
