I think it did very well. They would launch the fighters right before the battle took place. I think its a great idea..pulling the re-enactor fans as well as people there for the airshow!

Personally, I think it did. I thought the "recon flight" calling in the air support was great. Only change would have been to have the Bf 109 straff up the field to be chased off by the Mustang while the Jugs nailed the Germans. All in all it was very cool.

The pilot looks odd on the N3N with no head set.

Mike, the battle not only meshed well with the show, it was the highlight as it provided the best flying display with multiple low level passes. The only thing that was a negative was when the FAA showed up for the Sunday afternoon battle. What a bunch of party poopers. ( hope I can say thAT (LoL) Please, please, please do it again next year. The 47's were great as were the two different Mustangs used throughout the weekend. Only way to improve on it for next year would be to use different aircraft. Potter's Hurricane with those monster cannon would look amazing on some low level starfing runs.

Mike,

I think the battle was perfect and from what I saw the crowds loved it. On Sunday when all the vehicles went through the crowd the people followed them into the camp area and had a blast talking to the people in the re-enactment. When I went looking for a spot to shoot the battle I could not even get close to the crowd line and eventually found you up on the hill.

I will get some N3N pictures posted tonight, I had to get the bakery orders all set for today, fix the washing machine and do laundry, did I mention I had to cook myself dinner also? Kelly is back in Nashville for the week so I have to fend for myself, Beer and junk food :lol:

I really enjoyed the whole battle, I did not get the greatest view of it but that was my fault and no one else’s. I'd be very sad to see that part of the show got dropped. The P-47 and P-51 runs are GREAT. I do wish that Paul could have showed off his new OY-1 a bit closer to the crowd, I really would have loved to get some good flying shots of that.

The Bf-109 is a good idea but a JU-87 doing some dive bombing, now that would be the bomb. Maybe someday that can happen. :wink:

He had the head set on when he taxied out. Would he have taken it off during flight for any reason...other than by accident?

I don't think the FAA allows anybody besides crewmembers aboard the JU-52 since it was a foreign built aircraft. At least that what the Great Lakes Wing says about the ride program. So possibly the paratroopers fall under the same category.

It was really wishful thinking , Mike.

I think you may be right when it comes to a ride program but I know Martin Caidin flew with passengers when he had his JU-52.

I believe that since the JU-52 was used as an airliner, prewar, that a standard category certificate may exist for the type. Maybe the difference is that the CAF aircraft is CASA built ?

I was in the Battle. I thought that it went well with the show. I was a little disapointed that we had to camp out behind were the hangar used to be I thought that we were going to be spread out among the static airplanes. It was very cramped but we made it work. I felt that we were treated very well and I am looking forward to next year. I love this airshow and I hope to see it grow even more in the future and it was a honor to be apart of it again this year.
