Welcome to the WIX, Glennx1. By far and away the most active P-38 is 44-23314 "23 Skidoo" owned by the Air Museum in Chino, Ca. This plane makes it to airshows all over the place! Up until recently "Glacier Girl" 41-7630 flew quite alot also. The owner of this plane passed away within the past 6 months or so. This plane is confined to its hanagr in Kentucky for the time being. Also airworthy is "Putt Putt Maru" 44-53095 in Florida and ex-CAF aircraft 44-26981 in California. I'm not sure just how much flying these 2 P-38's have done recently. Numerous P-38's are currently in restoration to airworthy status and 5 years from now things could be very interesting in regards to flying P-38's!

I'm pretty sure this aircraft has been pulled apart for restoration in the Calif area.

The ex-CAF P38 was rebuilt at Mojave in 2000 by Bruce Lockwood and The Museum of Flying, It was late 2000 when It flew, I don't think it has had any more work done to it since!!

What's the current ownership situation on this one? It's registered to 'Vintage Fighters LLC' now.

I can't remember who the principal of the LLC is, but I think it is the same guy who has a Mustang under restoration at Chino, and was to sponsor the PoF B-17. I swear I saw a photo of it pulled apart...maybe at Rialto. Could it have been for an annual and not a restoration?
