Fredericksburg Texas

My wife and I went took a little vacation to Fredericksburg and spent the night at the Hanger Hotel(Cool Place). The next morning we went and had breakfast the the Airport Dinner (Also a cool place). While having breakfast a P-51 Mustang " Salley Forth" (Kit model) landed. I got some great pics. On the tarmac was a DC3C "Beep Beep". Its great that there are places to go and feel like you are back in the 1940s. Keep them flying!!!

Mustang-come back to Fredericksburg the weekend of October 13 and the B-17 Sentimental Journey and several other war birds will be there for rides and display.

I believe it was last year that there was a big WWII reenactment of a Pacific battle right out side of Fredericksburg. Plus the Nimitz museum is very nice !! Theres even a B-25 inside sitting on a mock up deck of the Hornet.

The Nimitz Museum is a great museum. They have an outstanding collection of artifacts.

Including the midget submarine captured off Pearl Harbor.

Well worth the trip to see.

Lynn- The C-47 will be there a long time. It will be static display for the hotel. Another one that will be a flyer is on the way. It is in Alice for the wing pull and repair. Donated my C-1 stand and Pratt tools to them to keep it going. They plan on building a hangar and keeping it there. Wonder why that would get my attention?

For you reenactor types the Nimitz museum will be doing an artellery shoot (pyro of course) with tanks and towed with an L-bird spoter overhead along with the other warbirds

Gosh! What a wonderful part of the Texas hill country, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Boerne and with Fall coming on it will be busier than ever. The neat thing about Fredericksburg is there is something to hold everyone's interest and for the men especially the Nimitz museum is one of the best being dedicated strictly to the War in Pacific. The dioramas displaying the Japanese submarine and the B-25 on the deck of the Hornet preparing to launch are a bit "spooky" especially with the special lighting, then R-2600 engine starts to turn over, I didn't expect that at all. There is a garden outside with a rock wall around it displaying plaques of lost ships and crews with a explanation of their fates, if my memory serves me right the plaque for the Indianapolis the Navy still has her listed as overdue at Leyte.
Just be sure you take all the credit cards with you if the ladies are touring all the shops...Tom

And don't forget that the peach crop comes in toward the end of summer. Those are some of the best peaches that I've eaten. There are a lot of peach orchards in the Fredricksburg area.

Yes, the peaches are good - when they are there. Sadly this year they lost over 90% of their crop due to hail and drought conditions. The town is still a great place to visit (I was there last night) and has some great attractions.

Obergrafeter - any chance that they'd like another L-bird for the October weekend? I've been flying an L-2 a good bit lately and have been thinking of taking it to Midland the weekend before that.
