Anybody going to Burlington Saturday?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 4:57 pm

I was thinking of going and Shannon is visiting friends in VT this weekend.

I could kill a few birds in one shot.

T-Birds at Burlington.
Pickup the beetle doors in VT
Go to the VW show in CT on the way home?

Good thing gas has gone down 3 cents a gallon.

You could add taking a swing by the small display at one end of BTV to your list!

A C-131 (or T-29), some jets, probably something else I’m forgetting…

Hmmm is that this weekend?

Maybe I will, seeing as I need something to do.

I do have a few questions for N3N

Is that base closed Saturday? Are the static displays only viewable Sunday?
Found out about the Bus thingy, so I won't ask that

Back home after a weekend in VT.

Arrived at a park south of Burlington at about 10AM. Setup my chair and fed a few ducks before watching the show.

A few of our friends were flying in the show and it was a good day until a shower moved in at around 3:00.
Jimmy Vocell was flying Jeff Clymans P-47
Dan Dameo was Flying Clymans P-40
Bob Baranaskus in his P-40, I think.
Chris in the Mustang.
Dan McCue in the Collings Corsair (I heard the TBM was a scratch on the radio)
Ed Shipley in the Sabre.
A formation of A-10s with F-16s
An F-18 and F-15 Demo
John Klatt and a local flight surgeon in his Pitts
All over the lake before the rain.

THen after a passing shower, and alot of discussion of timing of the next one. THe T-birds flew a brief low show.

Not a bad day nonetheless.

Where abouts were you feedingthe ducks? I was right near the video screen until the F-15 demo, that is when I jumped out because of the rain coming in and a few other reasons. I did not think any of the remaining demos would be done before the rain started.

As you know I am an end of the runway kind of guy.

In the map on the website I looked at the restricted area and guessed what might be the show line. I saw the park at the southern end of that area and punched in the closest street name as my destination for my directions. Oakledge park was quite empty when I arrived at 10:AM.
If you look on this link, you can change it to a sattelite image and see a group of fuel tanks directly south of show center.

Just west of the tanks is a beach and south of that was the area I parked in and was only 20 steps to a bathroom, and a 1 minute walk to my truck.

It was a great spot to be in with a bunch of local NON AIRSHOW PEOPLE.
I had the Showboss frequency on all afternoon, and the T-Birds on the radio when they were flying and nobody around me had ever heard them during their show before. I left there at 4:45 or so, stopping to check out Montpelier. Then taking a scenic drive through the hills on a few back roads on the way to catch up with the girls.

I caught up with Shannon around 8:00 PM in Springfield, VT. Spent the night and then went over to pickup a pair of VW doors before heading home in the AM.

WHEW!

Yup, it's the capitol of the state of Confusion.
