airspeed gauges?

Did any WWII airspeed gauges have the smaller dial for Mach inside the big airspeed gauge, or was that a postwar thing?

The military didn't really try to achieve the magical mach number until 1947, so I don't thnk that they were installed. I know that they weren't on P-47's, -38's or -51's. Or L-5's for that matter either.

The Air Force Type F-4 ASI instruments with small mach gauge dials came out in 1944, so they definitely were applicable to aircraft such as P-51's and P-47's. What else could they have flown in?

Cheers,
Richard
