B17 part question AOS-1055-10

Hello WIX ers,
My FIRST POST is a Friend in need question .

Be the first to identify this BOEING part no. AOS-1055-10 and you could win a NO expenses paid THANK YOU!

In the course of hanging the landing gear on the "Texas Raiders" Douglas built dash 95 series B17G the landing gear team has come across some spacers that do not cross reference with our Parts manual.
They are aluminum rings that are green finished with a phonograph finish on the inner diameter. They appear to be the same diameter as the main axle, but they don't show up on the manual most readily available to us.

Any of you WIXers have a B17 parts catalogue that has a parts name and/or description?

I will be taking pictures this weekend and posting in an Update, because there are MANY good things happening to both the Airplane and the CAF Wing it is assigned to.

This may be part of the axle assembly AOS-1040
which was farmed out to a sub-contractor for
the B-17G run. I'm trying to track down some
details, but it looks like most of that information
was destroyed in the 1950's. I am awaiting some
return phone calls, and should know more in
a few days.

SPANNERmkV ~ have you spoken to Norm Ellickson at the Yankee Air Museum ? He seems to be the man when it comes to B-17 problem solving ~ and a really nice guy as well

THANKS for the help so far.
Many new pics are UP at the website listed in the original post.
Our "Desert Rat" WIXer shed some light in that the AOS stands for A.O.Smith Company who made parts on a sub-contract basis.
(Still in business making hot water heaters!)

Now it's down to the order that the part was assembled onto the axle in relation to the brake parts.

I will be moving more parts this weekend, but the landing gear team is simultaneously working on getting the plane back to being a "roller" for the big move.

Spanner,

AOS1055-10 are B-29 MLG axle spacers. No idea if they are interchangeable w/ a B-17, but I would think the dash 4 would mention it if they were, in the form of an alternate P/N.

If ya can't use them, I'd be more than happy to take em off your hands :wink:
