Depending on which source you get this story from, that's what they did... dunno if it really is true or not, though...

However, this was posted on another forum... I'm sorry, I don't recall which, maybe the Finescale forums? I'll take a looksee...

A friend I grew up with was on that "cruise", and was one of the "red shirts" that loaded the odinance on the aircraft,
including the comode. The "machine shop" and others worked real hard to rig the toilet so it could be dropped from the hard
point. The "mission" was "going downtown" (Hanoi). Charlie got "sugar" (please excuse my French) on
something other than that stinking rice wine!

The crew did load it to the brim with what could be called a "biological weapon". I have the "cruise book", which is like
a year book for the cruise. And they say the Navy has no sense of humor!

Fade to Black...

And so it begins.
Well, I did not find a "turret in a crate" at the salvage yard but I did find a "toilet in a crate". On closer inspection, the top of the crate is marked "Illinois Terminal Railroad" so I assume this is a vintage toilet from a railcar. It's smaller than a standard toilet and looking at the photos of the actual event, the toilet on the wing of the Skyraider appears to be "full size". No problem, I just happen to have an old high school friend who manages a plumbing supply store. Voila, a brand new Kholer that had a small flaw. The cooler? That's liquid courage aka "bad idea juice". Eric's an ex-Army Ranger dude so if he gets mad, I can always blame the booze. Stay tuned for updates.
