Glenn,
A very frustrating feature found in various NAA publications re: P-51 is the numerous times a significant dimension is given in one source and agree to within a decimal point OR TWO (!) somehere else. Recent case concerened a dimension given for the HS prop plane. One drawing shows it at C.Sta-14.xxx and NAA 5822 says -14.x6x.... How close were they building these things anyway??!!
This is not to be confused with a blatent dimensional error. Best example appears in 3-views found in the tech manuals. Sometime during P-51B production, these strted giving ht of fin as 69.xx instead of 67.xx. the latter being correct for P-51D/K as well as Mustang I's and all those between.
BTW- I got some data from Jay Wisler re:HS blades. still looking for drawings of the cuffed blade itself. I have the run out dimensions from Jay, but still need the sections. The square tipped blade also has a rather strange feature. The tip sections are ABOVEthe pitch axis C/L! Makes me wonder about the cuffed type.
Thanks for that bit of data from Horkey.
Charlie
