Warbird Information Exchange

After reading the Toilet Bomb thread and looking at some pictures of USAF Spads. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if when the Skyraiders were transferred from USN to USAF if the Navy paint was stripped down to the metal and then USAF scheme was applied? Or were the USAF color simply applied over the Navy marking? the reason I ask is I was curious if there are any pictures of USAF Spads with Navy markings coming through the Faded and worn SEA scheme?
