Steve Irwin has been a current hero of mine. Thanks to him I now have an apprisiation for nature and animals when at one time I didn't care at all. But thanks to him I now recycle, I quit hunting, and I even saved a bat once!

Thanks Steve for making a differance.

Sad news.

Hello All,

I agree with several of the guys who already posted on this one. The world has lost a good man. His genuine enthusiasm for what he did may have seemed "corny" to many, but he was a true "mans man" when it came to adventure. The world seems less brighter now, with his loss. I hope that God blesses his family during this time of grief and loss.

Respectfully,

Paul

Nathan,

Actually, hunting is one activity that PROMOTES wildlift populations by funding state and federal research programs and funding the acquistion of land for habitat enhancement.

Did you know that over a third of the money used to purchase ALL the land for the U.S. Wildlife refuges came from Pittman-Robertson tax funds, which is the Federal tax on all firearms, ammunition, and other hunting and some fishing equipment?

Ducks Unlimited is the second largest wildlife preservation organization in the World and is made up mostly of waterfowl hunters and enthusiasts.

I am a college trained Wildlife Biologist (Oregon State University class of 1974) and I can tell you that HUNTERS preserve more wildlife than they comsume.

if you think about it.... the accident was freak in it's nature!! at least he died doing what he loved, hope i'm that lucky!! sting ray hits are quite common, when i'm in the ocean i shuffle my feet to avoid them. a hit to the heart was a 1 in a million shot. was he diving with it?? or wrestling with it on a boat / shore?? i've hooked them beach fishing & they are sheer dead weight, damned near dragged me into the drink!! my buddy just returned from alaska on a halibut fishing trip. 1 of his fishing impliments included...... yes..... a .357 magnum pistol. why???? as the halibuts & some times sting rays he caught were so big & strong flopping around they would knock you into the water. the gun was a necessity!!

Dang, this is the second time I've come home from my annual Labor Day Weekend camping trip to hear news like this. Nine years ago (1997), it was the tragic death of Princess Diana. A sad day it is..............

Story is he was swimming over the top of it and somehow accidently cornered the stingray. It spun around and flicked its stinger up and into his chest. Like you said, a one in a million shot!

RIP Steve.

I think that I saw a Three Stooges episode like that where they drilled holes in the bottom of the boat to let the water out. How do you shoot a fish in your boat without the same result?
