Hi;

currently in Chile there are two Catalinas: one is flying (CC-CDT) with IBCH, Ibero Chilena de Aviación as waterbomber. The other is the former ASPAR CC-CDU/CC-CGY which has been restored by Museo Aeronáutico de Chile to represent the famous Manu-tara, the first aircraft that reached Easter Island from Chile's mainland in january 19, 1951.

The c/n of the restored aircraft is CV-520, s/n 4434009 (other sources state that it was 44-34001), ex Aéronavale 20, ex F-WKMR, ex CF-IHC and N62043. Does anybody know when it was registered N62043 and its civilian operators while the aircraft was flying in the US?

Here are two images of the Catalina that represents the famous Manu-tara, aircraft serialled FACh 405, the first aircraft to reach Easter Island from Chile's mainland in January 1951.
The restored aircraft is in fact the Cat formerly registered CC-CGY, ex French Navy 20. The original Manu-tara was destroyed in June 1961 near Valparaiso.
I took these images at Museo Aeronautico de Chile in August 18 2006.

Ahhhhh,

PBY's and Connies.... Lovely shots of both of them. They are two of my favorite piston pounders. Great sounding aircraft and elegant in flight. Thanks for posting the shots of both !!

I'd imagine those Cats were about the most beautiful sight in the world to the pilots who were bobbing in the water!

Curiously enough, several bits of CC-CGY are currently flying on VH-PBZ because after the accident of the latter in Argentina in January 1986 (then it was registered CC-CCS), various damaged areas were replaced with pieces of CC-CGY.
