I know this is a touchy subject with everyone here, and I don't wish to fuel any fire, but whether you feel that low passes are safe, not safe, cool, not cool, whatever...there are still plenty of interesting low pass photos out there. This is one I took some time ago. And yes, I had to jump out of the way. After we looked at the photo, it was decided to "bring it up a little next time."

Yeah, I agree that it wasn't necessarily the smartest thing. But we only thought about that after the pass was made on this photo shoot. I think everyone here has done something they feel they got away with. I just got lucky that day.

Just thought y'all might like seeing the picture.

Dollars to donuts says that's a fake.

There looks to be some sort of brace that falls away from the guys back (as if it were propping a dummy up) just after he was hit. Also, the plane doesn't seem to be affected as it flies by the guy. You'd think it would want to cartwheel into the ground towards the camera. It appears to pull up and fly on.

He may have gotten clipped by the strut, but it doesn't look like it was close enough to actually hit the guy.

I ran this through my movie editor and it is real as it gets. It is not a joke, this guy gets nailed.

I've watched it about 10 times and it looks kinda' real to me. On the one hand, watch the guy fall. Maybe real...maybe not. Tough to tell for sure.
On the other hand, they don't show any video of the emergency people picking him up. The guy they put on the gurney looks real enough.
They coulda' made a switch and that's why they don't have any video of them moving him from the ground to the stretcher.
But then on the other hand....WAIT. I've already used both hands.

Mudge the even handed :?

Sorry, Gary; didn't mean to hijack this thread, but...

Here's another version of the same video. Note the damage to the L-bird at the very end.

I'm thinking this guy really got clobbered. I wonder if he still stands right next to the runway at airshows?

Aww, no problem. I just saw everyone getting in an uproar about the low passes on another thread and was trying to just get back to everyone here having fun with these ol' airplanes, and not arguing with one another.

And as far as the Cub video, I read waaaaay back when this happened that it was a fatality. Could be wrong though.

Either way, I was hopeful that with all of the awesome photographers on this site, someone else would have better low pass pictures than the one I took that they could add.

I'll see if I can find and scan the veeeerrrry next photo after that one tomorrow. I clicked the shutter as I was jumping out of the way and as the rocket rails were going by (he was pulling up by then though).

Not to worry, I saw this clip years ago on RealTV (or something of the sort)...the end of the clip has an interview with the Cub victim in the hospital. He suffered a pretty severe head injury, but I believe made a full recovery.
