P.S. Oh yeah... I also went for a ride in this other plane... I think they called it a Lancaster. Not a bad ride.

That's awesome Mike! I flew a Tiger Moth for the first time last year in New Zealand. What a cool machine that's just great to fly. I don't know about your flight, but on mine, it put a silly little grin on my face that pretty much described the whole adventure. Did your expression look anything like this?...........

That's a boy having a good time.

Any woman will tell you boys don't look good when they're having a good time.

What are you thinking about?

Mike,

Sounds like you had a great day.
I'd bet you got some photos of the Battle of Britain ceremonies practice flight also.
Any news on what participated and how that went?

Waiting for pics
Bill

Mike also had some black crosses off his wing. Ollie supplied his FW149 as a photo platform for today’s practice and did an amazing job putting us in the right place at the right time to grab a few shots.

Tomorrow we expect Rob Gilman in Russell's Hurricane to be added to the flight.

We will miss you tomorrow Mike.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread with my picture, Mike.

Congratulations again on your flights!

Its the airspeed indicator. The breeze deflects the pointer.

Here's my stuff :

Here are my pictures from the day... Hopefully the photographers I took aloft will have some interesting material.

At Vintage Wings' place before the Saturday practice.

The team is not ready yet, we are missing 5 Merlins... Oh, here are four more!

Flying wing with those big powerful things is quite something. I had to dive and accelerate in order to stay with them long enough for the picture wizzards to do their trade, then break off until the next pass. It's a wicked sight to have a Lanc with two Hurries, a Spit and a P-51D overtaking you less than 1 000' away...

Birds in for the night...

Ceremony went very well, we got some good photo opportunities in the air, but what really got me going was to see the Lanc skim a small cloud with the 4 fighters in trail... I'm still grinning from that!

Russell's Hurrie firing up.
Image
Image

He scared the crap out of all of us at the museum (we landed there after the display to meet the Vets). He took off, and just as he was airborne, the engine started sputtering and completely quit!! A long moment (well, it seemed way too long) went by and it roared into life again, taking the bird quickly skywards... I have no clues as to what happened...

Russell's Harvard.

Woohoo! What a blast this weekend was. Ollie, you da man! Thanks for Saturday. Wow! Chasing the flight around for two days was just awesome and my heart is still pounding after the 3.5 hour drive home. I’m about to look at the images from today but I thought I would check in first.

Cheers,

Eric
