This exciting event is just about a year away. Its never to early to make plans to attend! Perhaps a WIX gathering? For those who are not familar with this event check www.stallion51.com/events/gml2006.cfm

Maybe I'll go to the next one if they hold it in Waukegan!

I am hoping to be there...

The only thing that will keep me away would be my obligations with the Air Force...and you never know how that's going to go.

A WIX gathering would be cool, certainly.

I'm hoping that my Cavaliers book will be published/unveiled at that event, too.

OK, so dumb question, why the "final" Mustang round up? I must have missed the memo. Are all the P-51's going somewhere and no one is going to fly anymore? This will be a great show but I hardly feel that it will be the "last" one. Those who have earned the priveledge of owning and flying these great birds will certainly continue to show and some promoter will continue to host the great round ups. No?

While I can't speak for the folks at Stallion 51, I have conversed with them at length about the Gathering. This will be not a only a gathering of airplanes, but also veteran P-51 pilots, the number of which gets smaller each week. Certainly we will not be able to attend events bringing the airplanes and the veterans together forever.

Also, the costs associated with hosting this event are tremendous. I truly believe this will be the largest gathering of Mustangs that we will see in the future. It has taken an organized group like Stallion years to gather the financial and community sponsorship to pull this off. It is unlikely that it will be attempted again, IMHO.

I wish it wasn't two weeks after Reno.

I have to think that date was a calculated decision, probably based on other airshow obligations that various aircraft have throughout the summer.

God Bless the folks that are promoting, attending or sending them a dime to do this good thing. "Every man-jack one of them, Nigel!" as Gen. Jack E. Ripper would say.

(I think the same thing about EVERY Event! The Warbird community needs
ALL the involvement it can get on every level.)

TONGUE IN CHEEK PART
AND if anyone is truly bent about calling it the "Last" one... well the gauntlet has been thrown down! Make arrangements to One Up them!

BACK TO 'ALMOST' SERIOUS
Everyone even vaguely interested should make an effort to attend THIS EVENT so you have something to compare it to!

Imagine if you will, the sound of ALL those Packard/Merlins taking a low pass in formation OR in trail...

Count me in

My little heart's going pitter-pat already. The Mudges will be there even if Mrs. Mudge has to call in sick.

Mudge the anxious :drink3:

Hey,

Does anybody have any details for this event?

I was just looking at the Google picture of the airport and I see alot of ramp space. Is this going to be in the Cargo area, tanker or Helo ramps?
Unfortunately it seems like there are not alot of "end of runway" vantage points. (My favorites)

It also doesnt return alot of Hotels close by in any searches I was looking at. Plenty downtown but not alot near the airport. We may have our camper ready for this one, any campgrounds close by?

Columbus in not a tourist hotspot, but....

Anybody with any info that lives close by?

Well, from what I have heard is the show will feature all USAF ACC Demo Teams with Heritage Flights, only USAF aircraft (Army Air Corp etc) including warbirds with no navy participation. Possibly a few civilian aerobatic performances and possibly an appearance by the USAF Thunderbirds. In addition to all the Mustang activities scheduled. Hope this helps.

According to a recent post on www.fencecheck.com, there will be a press conference September 27, 2006 to promote the event. Several Mustangs will be in attendance at Columbus.
