Need transportation for an R-1820 engine

Fri Sep 22, 2006 7:48 pm

I've been asked by the Museum to see if anyone out there would be willing to donate trucking services to transport an R-1820 engine from California to Fort Worth. I don't have any details yet, I'm just putting out advance feelers. It sounds like someone may be giving us this engine, but again, I don't have any details.

For those of you who don't know it, a typical R-1820 is about 55 inches in diameter, about 48 inches deep, and weighs close to 1,350 pounds. It would most likely be mounted on an engine stand, which would add several hundred more pounds and quite a bit more size. Transporting such an engine would probably require a flatbed or lowboy trailer. This will not be a small, light load.

If you can help, or if you have any contacts you can check with, the Museum would appreciate it very much. VFM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations of goods and services are tax-deductible.
