A friend just told me he saw a twin engined German bomber
fly over his house yesterday. Black crosses under the wings.
Any idea what plane in German markings was flying over
Northern Illinois yesterday?

advTHANKSance

It was probably the CAF Great Lakes Wing JU-52. The plane was scheduled to be in Schaumburg, IL yesterday.

What did they do? shut one engine down to save fuel? or just leave one behind?

Nothing new. The last I heard it was suppose to be finished last year. Can't find anything on the Deleware Valley website. Their probably all standing in line to get on of those 45s.

I could see how someone not familiar with the Ju-52 might not notice the third engine in the nose, but only noticing the two engines on the wings...especially if the plane was at a higher altitude. Those black crosses on the wings might distract someone from doing an accurate engine count.

Also the speed that the mighty ju-52 goes by must impress even the most hardened airshow observer. Nothing like the ante tu making a photo pass.

The latest on the Storch is that the fuse has been recovered, painted base coat of tan for the Rommel scheme. Wings are covered and ready for paint. Sitting on its gear.

I'll see about getting some recent pics from the guys (In addition to National Cap Sqdn, I am proud to be a Del Valley member and an Old Dominion Sqn member).
