Another edition of a great tradition. The only thing I saw was that the picture on page 43, that's Bill Speer over Breckenridge, Texas with me in the back seat. Dick Phillips was in Johnny Rister's L-17 along with Steve for the photo mission.

Yes, another great magazine. I like the article on the Lancaster...great pics too.

It sure beats that one page "article" on the Lancaster in that other magazine. (Do I sense sour grapes from the competition?)

I have to agree with mjanovec. This magazine just gets better and better. And yes I do believe that their is some upset people at that other magazine over the Lancaster crew. Keep up the great work Tim!

I haven't found the new Digest yet but I did see the "other" magazine. Aside from the shot of the Corsair and A-4 in formation I was less than impressed. The comments about the "internet malcontents that barely have a pot to piss in" kind of ticked me off.

I'm eagerly awaiting #11 down here in Houston. It just hasn't hit the shelves yet.

Can you expand on this, for those of us that don't read the other warbird rag?

Sorry about that Randy. I should've done that. They were referring to the folks on the internet that were complaining about Thunder and the airplanes that had been scheduled versus what actually showed up. They basically said that most have no knowledge of what it takes to operate a warbird and then went on further to state that most barely have a pot to piss in. The CWH Lancaster guys were also ripped in a seperate side article. I thought it was all highly uncalled for.

He claims (in his main article about the Thunder Over Michigan) that there was whining on internet sites that some of the listed aircraft were no-shows at Thunder. He goes on to say that the "majority of internet malcontents know little about real aircraft," also saying of the internet crowd that "they certainly do not have funds" to own such planes or donate to museums, claiming "most probably barely have a pot to piss in."

I guess this means if you discuss warbirds on the internet, you're one step away from living in a cardboard box on the streets. Oh, those poor huddled masses who can't afford their own Spitfire...they should realize their opinions are worthless.

The one-page editorial about the CWH Lancaster then reads like a one-page whining session about how AC didn't get to make a photo flight with the Lancaster (and were refused such in air-to-air communications) and how the Lancaster was static display only during the show (somehow neglecting to mention the photo passes the bomber did on Sunday before departure). He also complains the Lancaster set up tours of their bomber shortly after arrival, taking in "lots" of money ("...all in American dollars"). Then he ends his argument by stating that if foreign organizations won't play ball, we should keep "American dollars south of the border" and "get more American aircraft to Thunder..."

Whatever little money I have left from my welfare check, I use to buy other aviation magazines, but not this one....

I subscribe to all three (including Warbirds Digest) and except for the Digest, I have for 20+years. I've got magazines stuffed in boxes all over the house and I have to admit I have a very tolerant wife who patiently rearranges all of the more current issues on and under the coffee table and end tables.

The one thing I have to say in defence of the other mags is they were there for all of us at the beginning and have contributed a lot to the success of the Warbird movement. I've bought a few issues of FlyPast from time to time off the rack, very good magazine but a bit pricey to subscribe too this side of the pond.

I'm sure after being in publication as long as they have they have developed a few unhappy readers for one reason or another. Wait till the Digest gets a few more years of exposure.

But in any event I received my #11 in the mail this week and it's really great, congrats to you Tim. You guys needs to subscribe and support as many of these publications as you're willing too as long as you have a pot FULL of piss....Tom
