Warbird Information Exchange

Greeley, CO:

Saw a couple of airplanes (F-84 and ??) at the Cheyenne, WY Air National Guard entrance, but it was too dark for any photos; there was also a Med-evac UH-1H on the other side of the ANG's compound, clearly seen from the street and behind an Office Depot.

The T-38 is located on the West side of the terminal; the photo angles are very difficult due to the proximity of the fence and the roofed observation area.




There were 8 Cessna O-2s that I could see, 7 together and 1 a short distance away.



According to what one of the guys there told me, the owner of the O-2s is trying to sell them, but his asking price is too high and hence, no takers so far. I was also told that the owner has a couple of hangar-fulls of aircraft, but no mention was made as of types....

Thats cool - thanks for the photos! Too bad the 0-2s have to sit like that.

Tulio, if you ever make it back into Nevada, I am wondering if the Battle Mountain airpsrk is still there. They had a F-111, F-4, F-86 and a T-33 if I remember right. Then I had heard the AF was pulling them because they were not being cared for properly.

I was through NV on I80 at the end of Aug. There were some airplanes at an airport just south of I80, I didn't have time to stop (I mean warbirds not civilian stuff). I think was an F-111, I know I should have stopped, but I had to get back to WV, which was another 1500 miles and was running out of time.

Yup...O-2's been there as long as anyone can remember...

Don't know about the Twin Beech...

And as for the T-38...we used to pop it open during airshows up here and take pics of kids sitting in it for $5 a pop....years ago...

I almost -but not quite- decided to drive via Wendover; distance though, would have added too much to my trip.

For that same reason, I did not go to the airshow in August, when I was in Oregon.

One of these days, I will make it to Wendover, it is just a matter of time, as everything is in life : )

A look on Google at the Battle Mountain Airpark shows the planes you mentioned, plus a C-119. Of course the photos may be several years old, so no telling what may have happened in the meantime.

Those O2s look to be deteriorating fast.

Those appear to be J.W. Duff Aircraft inventory. They have a lot of projects and flyable aircraft at www.jwduffaircraft.com The O-2's look okay, remember that paint is 40 years old! The plexiglass looks good , and the airframes appear complete. The rusty door hinges and Dzus fasteners could be replaced easy enough. This would be one way to buy an O-2 if you wanted it to restore one absolutely original, as released from the U.S. Military with no mods. (to be an awards winner.)

Well, from whatever little I was able to see on the O-2s (I was given a brief escorted trip down the ramp) some of them still have the original radio stacks and instruments; I guess that in some of them, most of the original equipment would still be there for an accurate restoration.

Tried to copy serial numbers, but most were covered by a thick coat of paint, or had faded beyond easy reading.
