This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

It's great to know that this plane is going to fly again. If you look at the B17project.com webcam, the fuselage is coming along great.

Every indication I have is that this airplane is part of the B-17 Project at Urbana, in fact, it is the main part. That project is using parts from s/n 44-85813 and 44-83722, and a bit from 44-83316, to piece together an airplane. The dubbed serial for the airplane is 44-85813, probably because it already has a U.S. civil registration, N6694C, associated with it. My understanding it that Kermit sold all of his B-17 parts in the desert to Tom Reilly several years ago.

That's cool but the site gives no info on that just the serial of the Reilly airplane with no mention of s/n 44-83722

OK...here goes another "ignorant" question.
Is the panel on the upper fuselage about halfway between the cockpit and the break suposed to open like that (ie. hinged) or is it sprung?

I could be wrong but I believe that's the compartment which houses the life raft.
