Some Warbird Shots from Yesterday's Dover AFB Air Show

Mon Oct 09, 2006 8:54 pm

The family budget didn't allow Midland this year so I settled for a few warbirds that participated in the Dover AFB show yesterday. First of a shot of Snort in his F-86. Hey wait a minute ......

Ed Shipley is using him for cover!

A better shot of these two beautiful birds.

Long Island provided the WWII fighter cover with representatives from the American Airpower Museum and Warbirds Over Long Island.

Everyone,

Thanks for the comments!

Eric,

The weather couldn't have been better. A clear blue sky with temps in the 60's to low 70's. The sun not too high any more. The only photo obstruction was excessive smoke from aerobatic guys, especially Team Aeroshell. They actually blocked the sun for a couple of minutes. I processed my better warbird shots first as they're appropriate for WIX. I did get some very good Thunderbird (the USAF Team, not the B-17) and Super Hornet Pics that I'll post on my website in a week or so.

Jeff,

Sorry we didn't make it down to Dover this year.
Thanks for the report and pictures. I liked that first shot.
Looking forward to your other pics.

Hey Jeff... nice shots. My F-86 shots are almost identical... we must have been standing next to each other. Did you have a Nikon with a large zoom? I was there with Panchito. It was a good day on sunday, but saturday was a real bugger. I was amazed that we were able to make it in!

Cheers,
Richard

Richard,

I was the rotund man in a floppy hat shooting a Canon 30D sporting a 200mm F4L with 1.4 TC (These pictures stretch my capability). I also had three pre/early teen girls with me that day. I find that other WIX'ers shoot nearly identical shots to mine....I guess great minds think alike.

Best regards,

Jeff

Here's a few, I made it down there on sunday as well, last minute decision. Great day, but I had to leave early to make it home for the Eagles-Cowgirls game  I got nervous as I was leaving because I got to parking lot as the warbirds were expected to go up (they were a little late)....turns out it was perfect. They came out of the take off right over top of me.

Hey Jeff, nice shots, I see you made out pretty well there. Maybe I'll see you again this weekend in New Castle!

Wow... I think you were standing right next to me, on my right. I was wearing tan flying overalls. I had two cameras with me, but I think at that point I was just using the 1DS with a 100-400IS lens. I'll post some shots when I get the chance to go through them. Been non-stop since I got home. Make sure you stop by Panchito next time. Actually, Larry Kelley's having an open house/fly-in at Sussex County Airport this saturday (Georgetown, Delaware) if you have the chance to stop by. I'll be working the show. They are selling rides in the B-25 (if it's certified in time) for mid-300's. Might be worth the trip!

Cheers. Richard

All the best,
Richard

I had been wondering as of late if the crashed C-5 had been cleaned up yet.

Great shots by the way.
