BAD-1 Burtonwood - Fall 1945 - scrapping of Mustangs

Mon Oct 09, 2006 5:55 pm

Hi all

as promised, some gems from my collection

here a collection of photographs taken in Fall 1945 at BAD-1 Burtonwood, England (BAD = Base Air Depot) - among hundreds of bombers and other fighter types - this also was the killing field for many proud P-51 veterans of the 8th & 9th AAF...

The first shots show various P-51's taxying - they have just finished their last flight....

I am impressed that someone thought to document the scrapping. It stinks the planes were chopped up, but atleast someone had the good idea to take pictures.

Thanks for sharing!
