According to the caption, a photo of B-47E being ferried to Castle AFB Museum, China Lake Weapons Center in 1986. I would have loved to have been in the T-33 chase ship!

Saw it land on TV, darn near crashed

Wonder where they found a pilot that knew how to fly a B-47?

Amazing that it survived at China Lake without being destroyed or scrapped.

Dale Wolfe flew 1900's for a commuter airline that I worked for as a Mech in Upstate NY..........Great guy & Pilot. Well I was chatting to him at a company picnic and he was talking about his AF career. When he told me that he flew B-47's. I had mentioned that I remember reading about one flying in the late 80's and he said "Yeah, I knew about that.........I was in the back seat"

He told me that one of the reasons that he was picked was because he was one of the last pilots that was current on the airplane when it was in the inventory.

Pretty neat, I put a bid on it so I can look him up and have him sign it.

Is one bidder more worthy than the next? Is this attitude fair to the seller?

These are probably still for sale at the museum, and the seller may have more.

The picture is avialable to the public on a dod image site .. Why bid on ebay when you can save or download it for yourself ?

I hope this reply was of some interest or use to some and no exactly meant to flame ebay .. But just a fact I think alot of folks might enjoy knowing ....

Dunno about fair, but it would drive the price up. Knowing
another member is bidding, one might contact the other bidder and arrange
for a second signed copy from the Co-pilot? Both parties win! If it's a
case of an original something where a copy won't do...laissez bon temps roulette!!$$$$

I am sorry. I did not know this would start a flame. I was interested in the picture and thought I would place a bid on it. It wasn't ment to be mean if that is what everyone is thinking. In fact, three days ago I wrote a e-mail to the Castle Museum asking if they had any photos of the last flight of the B-47. I don't buy from ebay very often.

why is there a chute deployed in the air behind the aircraft?

I am sure someone here will probably elaborate a bit more, but it is a standard practice for the B-47 ... may even help to slow it down even more before touchdown ..
