USAF Flyover

For those that are in the DC area on Friday and Saturday the Air Force will be dedicating its new memorial with a mass flyover of 47 aircraft. Our B-24 is part of the flyover along with Yankee Lady as part of the WWII vintage flyover. The best place to view this event is near the Pentagon, which is near the actual memorial.

When I took off from Andrews AFB on Thursday, the P-51 had just landed with a T-6. The B-17, F-86 and a bunch of other Jet Crap was sitting on the ramp.

While downtown at the Capital today I looked up and saw what a I think was 9-0-9 flying by. Obviousley a 17 from teh shape adn sound, I assume it was her since the Withcraft is in town and it was painted OD. Later in the afternoon while back at the office in Frederick I heard the distinct rumble of 4 1820's and went outside to see what appeard to be Yankee Lady(This one looked to be natural Aluminum) followed shortly thereafter by a flight of 4 T-6's.

Looks like an interesting line up for tomorow including a heritage flight with a P51, F86, F4, F16, and F22. If only Tarheel Hal were here it would be perfect.

Yep...the Skyhawk and the 25...at least til she gets moved to FL. Scott gave us a great tour of Udvar last week, although we didn't get to see the A-4.

Just had the Collings Foundation buzz my house in Damascus, Maryland this afternoon. At first, I thought it was part of the USAF Memorial dedication ceremonies, until I checked the Collings schedule and saw that the birds were just down the road at the Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg, MD.

I was out putting a swingset together for my three-year old daughter, trying to make sense out of some extraordinarily vague instructions when I head the unmistakeable sound of radial engines. As I looked in the direction of the sound, Nine-O-Nine came over the treeline. I started jumping up and down like little kid in excitement.

A few minutes later, I heard the radials again. Could it be Nine-O-Nine again? I look skyward, but this time it's Witchcraft. The last time I had seen her, she was the "All American" back in '92. The plane looks fantastic.

What a way to enjoy a sunny Sunday afternoon!

Twas a beautiful eveing in MD...just posted some shots of the flyover on webshots. The flight was right on the mark. There was alot of hardware in the air and it went off without a hitch. The Air Force did it right.

After the superb repaint of the B-24 last winter ~ have you guys got anything equally interesting planned for the B-17 this year ?

Everything is always in flux with the Foundation...maybe, maybe not...as always there is alot of talk and speculation. It boils down to schedules that must be met. Personally, I would like to see Outhouse Mouse, or Chowhound...2nd Patches...the list goes on...but it is not up to me. The 262 is the primary focus at this point, and frankly very exciting. We are living in an amazing period of warbird history with limitless possibilities. Time will tell.

I agree totally with you.

Whatever our aviation passion ~ there is something available today to go see or even take a ride in.

The whole spectrum from a century of flight is out there and thanks to the dedication of people like you guys ~ we can get to see it and experience it !

I hope you get some time off before hitting the road for the 2007 season :wink:

TIME OFF !!??

He's out there on an most expeses paid tour of the U.S. Flying in some pretty exotic hardware, rubbing elbows with some pretty exotic people !!!

Why do you think they call him NEON !!! He needs the time off just so the wimmen can get a break !!! :lol:

Geez Rick...what ever you are smokin' you better share ;P Yeah its true...we live a great warbird life and I just logged 3.6 in the B-17 the other day. BUT not many see the 12 hour days, 7 day work schedule, yadda yadda yadda...but this is truly a labor of love, not a love of labor for everyone involved at Collings. The time off is cherished and well spent and not a person on the crew will deny the anticipation of ground school and the start of the next tour. What do I do when I go home?...hang out at Skypark...where I got my license...and fly. Quite pathetic...but truly a passion. I hate being on the ground.
