Anybody book any rooms yet?

Where are we all gonna go?

Yeah...I booked at Motel 6 in Grove City. Map says it's 10 miles but the rate is half what the close by motels are getting. I'll drive the extra 5 miles or so to save $80.

Yes - it was no problem getting rooms less than four miles from the airport and at a reasonable price. The hotel actually on the airport is the one that will be more difficult to get in to unless you are bringing a Mustang. Its also going to be much more expensive.

And its a military base. You will need a Military ID. I have a boat load of Hilton points, problem is, this town for this date, is blocked out. Seems they smell the $$ in the air 8)
True for any airsho town, you pay $100 for a $35 room......

Only if you want access to the ANG facilities. Other than that, it is a standard civilian airport.

The Choice Hotels website says that all of their properties in Columbus are not available. I called the Obetz OH Comfort Inn directly, and they have plenty of rooms - two miles from the field.

That's what they claim but they are a little optimistic - they are actually 3.9 miles away! A bunch of us from the UK will be staying there too, seems like a reasonable place at $89 to $99 per night.

So when is everyone planning on heading into the area? I was thinking of booking for the 27th - 30th but was wondering if that was a bit over kill?

It might be time to start a thread in the "Gatherings" section and have Scott Pin it to the top of the page. That way we could figure out who is going, where they are staying and when they plan to show up and leave.

It doesnt cost anything to reserve/cancel a room.
I put a reservation in for Friday and Saturday. The other days that I need will be much easier to do later. I will probably add Sunday with a rewards point night when I hit 25000 points.

I'm so excited for this! Since I live in Akron, I will only have about a 2 hour drive! It is about time something this big happens in my part of the country! :D

The only thing that could make this better would be if they were all... :f4u: :D :D :D :D

I just booked a room at the Amerihost for my mechanic. My airplane only breaks when away from home so I decided to take him with me. Anyway the rate was $185.00 per night plus tax. I think it was $65.00 last week when I was there. This is the hotel literally on the field, within walking distance from one of the FBO's, Air Net. But the airport is pretty far from any restauraunts. The downtown hotels are at least a 20 minute drive and seem a little dificult to find, at least for the first time. Columbus seems to be a great city to visit and the reception by the Airport authority and other officials was exceptional.

Red Roof Inns in the area still have plenty of rooms available that weekend. I booked four nights at the downtown Columbus one. 400 bucks!! But, of course....if you have a wife that works for Red Roof like I do, it won't cost you anything. :D
Still hoping my squadron will be attending with our PX. Shoot, we're only a few miles from Rick. Either way, I'll be there every day.

Mike, the two motels (Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn) are less than four miles from the field and directly north - so only ten minutes or so by car and a lot quicker than going downtown or over to Grove City. Being on the field has got to be the most convenient place but its nearly double the cost of the above motels. Still, its good to have your mechanic close by!
