Warbird Information Exchange

Maine may not be in the picture for long, which is fine with me.

Right now the thought is around the Nashville area. What advice about moving to the area can you give?

Like where are good spots to live?
Where are the bad spots to live?
Cheap vs. expensive?
Availability of jobs in the area? (I have worked on FA-18 in the Navy, repaired NDT test gear and assisted in power plant generator, steam and gas turbine inspections for GE, and now I Program for a direct mail company, but I want to get out of the "Cube")

Spots that I could consider getting my hands dirty with some warbird action (are there any?). I have really started to feel the need to be involved in a group that operates warbirds, I miss working on and around A/C.

We would prefer somewhat rural living; I would really love to be able to have enough property to grow grapes and maybe apples.

lived in athens tennessee for a short time, also it's 45 minutes from the georgia border, for a nice vacation their or on to florida. athens is the right size, rural & metro. beautiful smoky mountains, hunting, fishing plentiful too. the economy in the 80's when i was their was soft, can't say for sure now. however tim........ athens was a dry county then!!!! i almost crapped my self when i found out!!!! i had to drive to cleveland tn for beer, a 60 mile round trip then. it maybe wet now though. y'all gonna put your hooch factory in that thar holler???

That's a coincidence - I was in Nashville in August looking at properties with a friend who's moving there. Take a look at the area called White's Creek - despite it being accessible to the freeway (and only 9 miles from downtown), you'd never know it - very rural atmosphere with a lot of horse properties, and the prices are still reasonable. Nice big houses, too - everything from fixers to new-built. And if you want to get really creative, there's a 1940s brick school that was closed recently with a gym that would make a great workshop!

Hey,

I was just informed I have to be at BNA in January. Two weeks at the airport for Embraer Legacy training. This ought to be fun. Two weeks in the country music capitol of the world and I hate Country Music!

I went there for a week, back in 2000 for Baker's IA class and the best part was...
Not just meeting Aaron Tippin, but having to go back to the hotel after class to see why he was famous to a few other classmates and look at a picture to see which guy he was.

I also got to go to Beech Party 2000. with 23 some odd Staggerwings in attendance it was a sight to see them lined up row after row.

What do I back this up with? I am planning on taking the last week of January off and having Shannon meet me in Atlanta. Then we can hit the Georgia Aquarium that weekend and meander into Florida through the next week. Spruce Creek, FoF, Dezerland, maybe a cruise and Fat Tuesday's are all possibilities for a good week of wandering.

Off to plan!

I liked Nashville but I'm not a "New" country fan. I prefer the older stuff. I’m also not into the Karaoke thing, that is what a lot of downtown looked like, but there was this great place with tons of beer on tap a few blocks from the old fort on the river. I wish I had time to sample a few more brews there.

After a long weekend with Family I have no idea what direction we are heading at this point but Nashville is looking less likely, Maine more likely.

Lost my job today, not a huge surprise, the rumors of layoffs coming have been in the air but we weren't too sure when and who. Today we found out and I've been given my walking orders.

So life opens a new door and I'm ready to jump through it and looking forward to another adventure in my life.

So I'm again looking at the great Nashville area and would like to hear ideas on areas that are safe, cheap and are not going to rape me with taxes like I'm being now in NY!

Dam (n) sorry to hear that.
Same thing happened to me after 10 years.
Went back to school and did 2 degree programs and the
same time (I don't recommend that ) and worked for
a local bank at night. Now back to work at the local hospital.
Remember one door closes and another one opens
