Mudge, what I meant is that my plane which has been in the shop for several months is now flying again.

Bill, No offense intended. I know it's been in the shop. What I meant was that the great majority of us WIXers never have and never will have the chance to ride in a Spit., much less fly one.
To quote my hero, "DUKE", "Just funnin', son. Just funnin'."

Mudge ~ if its any consolation ...... picture the scene

2005 airshow at Eden Prarie MN, I've had the great priviledge to arrive with the Yankee Air Force in B-17G ~ Yankee Lady on Friday afternoon.

I get invited as "crew" to the barbeie that evening. The YAF B-17 crew chief ( Norm Ellikson ~ the nicest man I've ever met ) introduces us all to BILL GREENWOOD :D ~ who spends some time talking to Norm.

After Bill goes I say that I would give anything for a ride in that Spitfire ~ but I've read about the strict weight limitation on the rear cockpit and I'm ( ahem ) 40 pounds toooooo heavy.

Saturday is a super day at the local show. Yankee Lady does lots of rides
and everyone is busy.

Bill flys a great show around 4pm.

The YAF crew all meet up around 5pm to pack up the stand and put the airplane to bed for the night.

Norm says to me ~ we were looking for you earlier ~ Bill wondered if we had someone who wanted a ride in the back of the SPITFIRE and we thought of you ~ but then we remebered you said about the weight thing so we told he nope ~ we don't !

As dinner that night the group decision was I should do the thing properly
ie have both legs amputated ( Like Douglas Bader ) and maybe ~ just maybe I would just scrape in on 180 pounds !

A little extreme maybe ~ but the closest I'll ever get to the a Spitfire flight

Bomberflight...If I were to go to the extreme of having both legs amputated, I'd have to insist on at least FLYING the thing :!:

Mudge the extremist
