Did some more digging.

This website does list 42-23399 as a participating D-Day aircraft.

http://www.amcmuseum.org/Collections/OralStories/carrierday.htm

50th Squadron Aircraft Crews for the D-Day Paratrooper Drop
June 6, 1944

A/C No. 42-23399
Pilot - Tarr, G. P., Jr. - 1st Lt
Co-pilot - Blain, J. J. - 2nd Lt
Crew Chief - Robinson, H. B. - S/Sgt
Radio Operator - Borgo, R. D. - S/Sgt

-might be a good deal for someone to jump on for the price

Actually the brownsville site says 13399 and not 23399 but I did find this based on the N number.

http://www.centercomp.com/cgi-bin/dc3/story?1347

which used to be CF_MCC

http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.s ... entry=true

13399 must be the MSn so the serial would be 42-93482

hmmmmmmmmmmmm, it appears that this bird was an Air America bird....CIA...........

Good work.

I thought perhaps 13399 was a partial Serial #and that the 1 was a typo. And when I searched N14636 with the FAA I got this:

http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNumSQL.asp?NNumbertxt=14636&cmndfind.x=12&cmndfind.y=9

Really the only thing useful I got off that page page was the year built. 1942. So I thought the serial should have been 42-13399. Searching JB's website say that 42-13399 is a Lockheed P-38G-10-LO Lightning. But there was a 42-23399 Douglas C-47A-15-DL, hence the reason why I thought it might have been a typo.

I'm still reading through the centercomp link you posted but it still looks like 42-93482 had a interesting wartime career.

Isn't there an Air America museum or outfit. Perhaps they might be interested in picking up this gooney.

or http://www.aerotransport.org/php/go.php ... &orderby=1

Shay the 13399 is the MSN or C/N not the actual serial we think of as 42-XXXXX

Here is a neat google satellite of the two birds for sale. They are in the NE corner of the field tip to tip.

Yes there is Shay, we're alive and well! I haven't had time to look through all the links posted, but are you guys positive this is a former Air America bird?

Based on the information available, yes. I am having them send me some interior pics of this bird tomorrow just to see what is left.

Copy and paste the address to local.live.com and use the bird's eye view - nice clear images plus a bonus: a bare aluminum Viscount!

One thing nobody has mentioned - somebody hung a couple props on this bird, one with a round plate behind it - was this (or was it going to be) a static display?

I have pictures of the air america birds' insides. The cockpit is gutted, but all of the tail feathers are inside the fuselage. If someone wants to post them here I can send them to you for inclusion on this thread.

I recieved this email from Dr. Joe Leeker Via the Air America Assoc.

Dr. Leeker wrote:
Since about the mid-seventies a lot material has been published about aircraft that were said to have been operated by Air America, but that were never operated by Air America. Another type of misinformation came into being by not distinguishing between CAT and Air America. As to C-47 MSN 13399, former 42-93482, it was indeed XT-823 and then B-823 between 1947 and 1954/5, and during that period it belonged to Civil Air Transport. Then it became N6634C (I don't know when exactly or with whom), and in November 55, it became CF-MCC with Maritime Central Airlines. Four more Canadian operators of that aircraft are known, until it became N14646 of Trans New England Airlines in November 73. It seems that it was first based at Brownsville TX in October 79 with JLR Air Transport, with more US owners to follow. As you can see, the aircraft was never with Air America, as Civil Air Transport adopted that name only in March 59, when the aircraft was already flying in Canada. As not enough reliable documents about the Company's period as CAT are available, my files do not list CAT aircraft, but only the aircraft that were flown after March 59, that is after CAT Inc had been renamed Air America.

Best wishes from Germany,

Dr. Joe Leeker

So the plot thickens
