Halifax from lake - what next

Again
There have been rumors of a Halifax recovery from another Norwegian lake - what is happening here and is there any news - I would love to see this one happen as well.
Are there any other prospects from lakes etc

Hi John,
Where did you hear these rumours?
All I know that there is a project going on to locate and hopefully recover Halifax LW170 from the Irish Sea.
Karl Kjarsgaard who was the driving force behind the NA337 recovery is at it again and I hope he succeeds as this new project is about a 29+ veteran of operations.
Plans are for it to go to the Nanton Museum for restoration. Apart from that there are a few other possibilities (4) to boost the worlds population or even double it. These are exciting times.

Hi Tony,
Well there are serious plans to investigate (underwater) sites where other substantial intact Halifax airframes could be waiting to be recovered. The LW170 project is a very serious attempt with the others being very possible contenders (plan B or C).
Think about Scandinava, Gibraltar and possibly even the UK.
Personally I am curious what's left in France or the Himalayas as the Hally was the only British type to fly over the "Hump".
Perhaps Jagan has some leads there.

The rumors are persistant and come from emails from friends in the UK and Scandanivia - don't confuse them with fact but thats what people are saying - There is supposed to be another Halifax in a Lake in Norway I think and that there is a project underway to bring it up and send it to Canada. It could well be being confused with the Irish Sea one you talk of but because I have been getting this from a number of people I thought it was getting a little substance to it.
I might add that the same people were telling me about the recent german stuff so thats why I put a little more credability in the rumors.
It is always difficult to seperate wishes from fact as you know but I do hope it is true.
What I am sure we would both like to see is a Stirling come up out of a lake - now that would be something - can you produce one of those for me!!!

No, I can't. Wish I can though. The RAF did some investigation into one that crashed in a Norwegian lake and is still there in 28 (ish) pieces, but work was stopped after months because of some missing crewmembers.
Well, you know how I feel about it etc. etc.
But I am sure that within 25 years or so we can expect to see some very substantial Stirling material being recovered. There is so much urge to find one that it's a matter of time.

there is substantial remains here in the s/w uk.
a stirling crash in '44 into a boggy area, the recovery crew dug out an engine but it sank back in overnight , so they gave up and left the site as unrecoverable, only a few pieces went thro the local mu salvage yard
as i understand it the site is sensitive so presumably there are problems getting permission to dig.
saw the site in the 70's and the metal on the surface was like new.
further up the moor, the yanks lost a half track trying to recover a as yet unidentified P-38

think stirling was LK499 ? or similar
