The other UK 'Fury... G-CBEL images.

Mon Nov 20, 2006 10:16 am

On Saturday I had the opportunity to visit Bournemouth Airport, where this gorgeous beast is based; Hawker Fury FB.10 G-CBEL.
Having been up for sale for several years, the aeroplane has apparently been sold to a new owner based in France.

It went out for a local flight at the hands of long-time owner John Bradshaw. It was only the second time I had seen her fly since 1996, and I very much hope it won't be the last :(

Comments welcome.

After a 20-minute sortie, CBEL joined the circuit for an immediate landing.

Excellent pix of a beautiful warbird. Thanks for sharing. It's great to see that she is still using her original engine and 5 blade prop.

Weird seeing one with the original main wheels and brakes as well. Thanks for the photos, good looking Fury!

Great aircraft and pics. Thanks for sharing. I don't think I've ever seen one in that scheme before. Neat.

I notice that all the taxi shots show a panel missing behind the exhaust stacks, but the flight shots have the panel installed.

Is it some kind of open and close vent? Or cowl?

That is the cowl flap on the Fury. The Centaurus powered ones need it opened on the ground or they will get too hot. The R-3350 powered ones keep them bolted or pinned shut. The 3350 installation in the Sea Fury runs so cold that the cylinder temps rarely even make it into the green.

According to a post,on the Flypast forum, by somone who may know ALL the story....'The reports of the aircrafts sale and export are un true....'

Ref the wheels, I seem to rmember from an article about the aircraft in WW, that it was fitted with F102 wheels and brakes to aid spares acquisition etc, have they since been changed back to stock ones?
Alan.
