John, great photos. Seriously I wonder why Carter was not a good president or at least people don't think so. He is reputed to be the smartest of the presidents, was a Naval graduate in nuclear subs, and seems to be rare for a politician, a person of integrity.

I've wondered that myself. I think it was a combination of many things,...the biggest two being the Iran Hostage Crisis, and the poor economy with high inflation and interest rates.

As Chico mentioned earlier, nobody can argue how much he has done since he left office. I think history will look favorably upon him not for what he did as the 39th president, but for his accomplishments afterwards.

I especially enjoyed reading (I'm still not finished) his book "Our Endangered Values, America's Moral Crisis." In it he takes issue with the ongoing blurring of the line between church and state which threatens civil liberties and privacy...something our current president is famous for.

John

carter's undoing was the way he handled the iran hostage crisis in 79 / 80. it was handled pretty limp wristed overall, even though a noble but failed rescue mission was attempted. our national pride was pretty much dragged through the mud during that crisis. as a nation we were looked at as impotent on the world stage. it's carter's legacy of his presidency. his dumb beer swilling slob brother billy didn't help in the public relations department either.
