I've Been Looking for Info/Photos of the Aircraft. . .

This is a P-47 Razorback crashed at Normandy. I am planning on gutting the bottom of a Tamiya P-47 plastic model kit to attempt to recreate this diorama, but I need some more information and photos of this aircraft. Here is the one photo I have of the crash, as well as a painting done of the aircraft's unit. If anyone can help out, that would be great!

From the picture and the painting it is obvious that the P-47 in question participated in the D-Day landings, and is appears to to have crashlanded on one of the Normandy beaches.

It appears that this aircraft is part of the 9th Air force, 365th Fighter Group, 386th Fighter Squadron.

It is P-47D-10-RE 42-75197

From the white color band on the cowling, it would appear to be a member of the 355th fighter group assigned to the 8th Air Force.

Sorry, but not true. The white cowling and bands on the stabilizers are ID marking common to all ETO camoflaged P-47s & P-51s.
This P-47D was assigned to the 386th FS 365th FG "Hellhawks". Here's a different view that gives you an a better overall view of the scene. This belly landing occured on or about June 22, 1944.

HEY!!! The plane in the bottom picture is my wifes Uncle George!!! I talk to him all the time.. Send me your Email and I'll send you a current picture.. His plane is painted up in the 9th AF, 368th, 397th.. He said he barely got away in that picture!

Here's some further info on this P-47 which was s/n 42-76297.
D5-H of the 386th FS 365th FG was MIA June 10, 1944 with the pilot 1Lt. John A. Weise KIA apparently either from wounds or injuries in the crash. He was hit by flak near Caen and bellied-in near St. Aubin Sur Mer.
