I have a civilian style jacket that is painted up. I wasn't trying to make it authentic, but I can post a pic if you like.

You bring up some good points about ebay...it seems ebay has really gone down hill over the last few years. I will never buy any name brand electronics off there because of all the scams and crooks out there that're willing to take your money and not send the item. When this happens, good luck trying to get ebay to do anything about it.

I've bid on A-2 jackets and bomber jackets in the past but due to the high prices they command it's a bit beyond my budget. I also worry about the provenance and authenticity of some of the jackets you see on ebay. Given the high prices these jackets fetch, it would be too tempting for scammers to buy an old A-2, paint it, and age it to look authentic. That's why it's soooo important to research...research...and research before you buy something.
