From what I found out 68-0339 went to RoKAF (South Korea) in 1989 after she was with the 4 TFW/SJ

I do not know the current status but maybe she still flies.

By the tail assignment "OS", no doubt she was assigned there at one time, most likely with the 51st Composite Wing (Tactical) that transitioned to f-4e's in 1974 (timing seems right). The unit appears to have transitioned to F-16s in 1988.

Alot can happen in 18 years! Anyone spot her there on Google Earth?

I see she went to Osan. Sister ship 68-338 was a MiG killer on 31 May 72. I see that the site shows pics of 338 with two victory stars ... my records show only one kill for 338.

Maybe one star is for the front seater on the 31 May victory, and one for the back seater - ?

68-0338 has the mentioned kill for 31 May 72 and then a second one ( Mig-21 Kill )with Cal Tibbet and Bud Hargrove on 16 Sept 72 ...

Very interesting! The two stars on the jet in post-Vietnam photos notwithstanding, I'd be interested to know your official source for that one.

Frank Olynyk shows Tibbets' 16 Sep 1972 victory in 67-0338. Tibbet's first victory, on 9 Sept 72, was in a "67" fiscal year jet also, as an aside (67-327). Frank even correctly IDs the 16th Sept victory as an E-35-MC jet. Frank cites 432 TRW Operations Reports as sources.

Not that Frank is infallible, none of us are, but his "error" rate is extremely low, and while I've got the book open, I'd like to correct the entry if warranted.

I had a buddy that was a Tech Rep with the Indiana Air national Guard and they had a bunch of F-4Es that went to SK. It might have served with the IANG. 122 fighter wing 181st Tactical Fighter group

Pete Davies & Don McCarthy's Mig Killer titles and Tony Thornbourough's Phantom Story all have the jet in question as 68-0338 ..

I probably have it in some offical publication somewhere as well will just take some looking to find it ...

Also 67-0338 as seen in this thread was assigned to the 421st TFS for all of 72 till at least summer 73 ... It was still serving at Taklhi in Sept 72 not arriving at Udorn till Oct when the 4th and 421st relocated there ...

Also I am not familier with Olynyk ..

Heh heh ... allow me to digress. Unfortunately, you're not alone. Frank Olynyk is only the world's leading authority on aerial victory claims vs. documentation to back them up. He took USAF's Historical Study 85, for example, to a whole new level, changing, in some cases the final tally - sometimes adding credits. His exhaustive studies on US aces' aerial claims from all wars has been accepted by the American Fighter Aces Association as "the last word" on the subject.

Frank's groundbreaking book, Stars and Bars is a must-have for those at all interested in the subject. I recommend searches on Bookfinder.com and Abebooks.com and Amazon.com before making your purchase ... it's out of print and VERY expensive - you might score a deal somewhere.

Some, including some very well-informed types, think Stars and Bars is all Frank did ... well, not quite:

In addition, Frank compiled ten softcover books covering ALL aerial claims for US pilots in all wars, divided by region, such as "ETO WWII". He even included 400 and 600 Squadron (IIRC - I may have the squadron series numbers wrong) series RAF claims books, covering all commonwealth and occupied country RAF pilot victory claims, I almost didn't get the two RAF books when I was actively hunting Frank's books down, but I was surprised to find they included "extras", like all 71, 121 and 133 Eagle Squadron claims.

I have 8 of these 10 softcover books, I only lack the USN WWII and USAAF Mediterrean volumes. I've tried every search engine known to man to find those two, but they are completely unavailable, except for his US Post-WWII credits (Korea, Vietnam, GWI, etc). As recently as a few months ago, a search on eBay found his first book on USMC WWII Credits on auctin with about an hour to go! Knowing that I WOULD be the winner, I put an obscenely high price as my max bid, and came away with it for a little over $100. Ewww - I know I pissed a guy off on that one!

I have been in contact with Frank, and he tells me that his publisher switched formats on him, and he is looking at re-issuing all his softcovers in PDF format. I encouraged him to do this, and even offered to retail them for him on my site - didn't hear back from him on that last request, unfortunately. However, hopefully Frank will indeed reissue his volumes.
