Hello all,

I'm new to this group and very interested in all things connected to the Golden Age of aviation, especially air racers! I'm presently researching the Time Flies. As some of you may know this was a race plane designed by Howell Miller (of Gee Bee fame) and flown before WW2. I am currently trying to see what information is left on this plane and in it's latter rebuilt form, the Miller HM-1. So I am looking for the following info:

-Any drawings and or blueprints of the Hawks Time Flies racer?
-Any other drawings or scale drawing of the plane?
-Any pictures showing the plane under construction?
-Any pictures of internal areas of the plane for example cockpit, engine, wheel wells other detail and or close up pictures.
-Any other pictures and/or specifics on this plane.
-Other documents related to this plane and it's construction.

I would be interested to get into contact with people that are building or have build Gee Bee replicas (the gentlement building the Q.E.D. springs to mind) to get into contact with them and see where they got their info. Any help somebody can offer or information would be much
appreciated. In addition, should somebody have any leads to any museums or people that are worth getting into contact with please let me know. Many thanks in advance!

Thanks! I had thought about it yet to contact him, but I will try for sure. Perhaps they have something or point me in the right direction...

Time Flies was certainly an amazing looking aircraft!

Yes Time Flies sure was an amazing aircraft, way ahead of it's time... Howell Miller managed with a small budget and a lot of creativity to creat an aircraft that probably was just as fast (if not faster!) as the Huges H-1. It is a pity that a lot of it's potential was not explored and therefor the plane and Howell Miller never got much recognition for Time Flies. This is also something that drives my enthousiasme for this remarkable machine.

So far I have some info. Basically a lot of overall pictures, some detail pictures. Regarding drawings, it seems very little has survived. So far I have contacted a lot of organisations and persons. Smithsonian (have only 1 picture in their archives), New England air Museum (Have not responded yet), Pratt and Whitney, Hamilton Standard and lots more. I have gathered what I think are most of the scale drawings created of Time Flies. Some accurate, some not so. What they do have in common is that none of these details the inner structure. All in all not yet enough info to build an historically accurate replica.
From studying the plane it has however become very clear to me how much Time Flies had in common with racers like the QED and the R-1/2. This is also a reason I would like to get into contact with people that are replicating these and other Gee Bee types.

Regarding the people you mention, I will for sure try to contact these people and see what info or pointers they might have, have to turn over all the stones! Thanks!
