I stopped by Sanders Aviation yesterday and was delighted to see the first ME-262 recreation from Payne Field. She is presently in the care of the Sanders family and she couldn't be in better hands. Here are a few shots:

Two of Mike Bogue’s old charges were in and around the shop as well. The F7F:

And the B-23 which was outside in the evening:

Denis' N3N is looking awesome as does anything that the Sanders turn their attention to:

Thanks for posting those. Do you have photos of any Sea Furies there?

I didn't have enough memory in my camera to take pictures of all of the Sea Fury's because there were so many!

Just kidding, I am on my way out of town so I will post a few shots when I get back.

Taigh,

My buddy and I were talking today about Stockton Air Field and have a question you can probably answer. About 15 years ago there was a Lockheed P-80 parked with the general aircraft in an overhang area. It didn't have any markings on it, but was painted military grey. Do you know what the story was on that plane, or where it went?

Back in 2001 I remember seeing it along with a C-195 fuse backed up to a hanger over by where the H&P C-97 was if I remember right.

Did you say B-23. I would love to hear more about it. I though the only one still around was sitting in Midland waiting for a sugar daddy.

The P-80 was built as a static display from a T-33. It was originally intended for an Air Force trade that never happened. The owner tried for years to sell it but it was priced way too high. Eventually it was disassembled and trucked out, just where, I don't know.

the N3N belongs to Denis Sanders and is his personal project. As I mentioned earlier it is beautiful as is anything the Sanders boys work on!

I can't tell you much about B-23 except to say she was a Howard Hughes modified aircraft like the one at Pima. Mike Bogue owned her for a long time and she is still owned by the family/estate. I remember flying with her on a photo mission at the famous, one and only, Tracy air show in Ca 15+ years ago...that was a great show!

Sorry I don't have more information for you.

Thanks for the info Taigh. I remember that Tracy show well. It was what could have been one of the best warbird shows for NorCal. I was an alternate for going up on the B-23 if one of the media guys didn't show up. Just as the I was about to board, the guy showed up :(

There is more on that B-23 and others posted elsewhere on this forum, try the search feature at the top of the page.

No rudder pedals in the 262??? Why is a brand new plane already torn apart?

Regards,
Mike
