Ryan web page

Going to get serious about my Ryan ST, STA, STM web page on my site. In searching the web there doesnt seem to be a good site for the Ryans! Mine will shows photos and serial numbers of surviving airframes. Have a list of current FAA (US) registered Ryans that I will start pulling from. I will be looking for help with info and pictures of the survivors. Like my Spartan and Lockheed pages this is just for fun, just for research purposes. Photo credits will be given. Thanks in advance for the help!

A couple of questions for you -

Will you also be covering PT-22s?

Hey Mike,

No I had not seen that Ryan ST web page! Dont think it ever came up on my searches! Thanks. Will have a link to that one on my new page.

As far as the PT22s I will not be including those in this list. Was shooting for the rare ones in the pre-war Ryan line. Maybe someday. Might end up with an SCW page at somepoint too.

There are a couple of Ryans based at Schellville - I'll try and get you some photos next time I'm up there. I'll also see what I've got from the NorCal fly-ins this summer too.

I always think that the in-line engined Ryans are very elegant machines, much more so than the PT-22s.

Thanks, Mike. I saw one of the Ryans at Schellville back in June but didnt get pics of any of them since they were tucked away in the hangars. Pics of the west coast machines would be great!!!

Mike's probably got better pictures, as his photography's better than mine. Here's some of what Mike can probably send you. I'm still learning this stuff. I'll wait till he's done with Ca, before I send anything.

Here's one I took in 1990. It was parked behind the P-61 in Beijing, China. I do not know if it's a STM or STA but I have two more photos of it including the engine if you want me to post them.

Dan,
I had assumed that this Ryan was one of the trainers purchased by the Nationalists before WWII. Did they purchase any? I know the Japanese captured some Ryans in the Far East but I do not recall if they were in China or maybe a Dutch colony? I would be curious to find out if the Ryan and the others are still sitting next to the P-61. There was a P-47, IL-10, TU-2, La-9 and maybe a La-7 as well as a few others.

The Chinese purchased 26 examples of the Ryan STM-2E and STM-2P.

The Dutch purchased approx. 108 examples of the STM-2 and STM-S2.

Dan, if you don't have it yet, may I suggest the book "The New Ryan" [Development and History of the Ryan ST and SC) by Ev Cassagneres?

Tulio,

Yes... that book is the resource that I am using and comparing to the civil registries. Since I am hunting surviving aircraft I am using this forum and others to pull info from the enthusiasts who have seen the aircraft recently. So far it is working! The books are used to back up the details.

Bummer, I can only imagine what it looks like at the end of 2006. What was still there in 1999? P-47? TU-2?
