This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I got my Collings Foundation Newsletter today and it had an article about how they are attempting to obtain an F-105 "Thud". They hope to obtain the aircraft so they can preserve it in flying condition. However a setback occured when two senators submitted legislation for the transfer of a surplus F-105 to the Collings Foundation, certain air force personell misrepresented that the resquested aircraft was the only one the Air Force had. In fact, the airforce has over 100 surplus F-105's!

Sometimes I think everyone in our government are idiots! Ok, more than sometimes. Seeing a Thud flying would be awesome!

It's really good of you guys to volunteer to give of yourselves like that .

You wouldn't have been F-4 WSOs in another life would ya? Seems like when that got flying every WSO and RIO within a 500 mile radius came out of the woodwork !
Seriously we are a long way off right now. But we are working the issues.

That is great news. It's has been a little over 20 years since a THUD has flown. Well over due I'd say.
Any idea as to which F-105's are candidates?
Probalbly the best ones around are the ones down in Lackland AFB. All "D's," none are "F" or "G" model Two-seaters though.

Collings also just released their Florida/ Southern tour of the famed Wings of Freedom with the B-17, B-24 & B-25. It is scheduled to start on January 19. They are scheduled upto April 11!

The Foundation is doing some exciting "wheeling and dealing" that may or may not come to fruition. Can I be any more vague...you bet. The F-105 is priority right now and it will be a two place machine. Flight training I'm sure will be available just like the F-4 and the A-4. The A-36 is progressing at a fantastic pace and will surely be an award winning restoration, and the Huey has hovered. The ME-262 program will be unfolding within the next year or so and there are quite possibly more additions to be made. The Bombers remain the flagships and we will be starting in Florida on January 19th.
