Shay .. Your pic's were taken in 1994 if I can read you pic correct ?

I am pretty sure those 105's were replaced with something else ( maybe F-16's ) not to long ago and are gone... could be wrong though ..

Here's the Lackland F-105 thread...

The shots were posted a year ago today... so depends on how long "not too long ago" is :)

If I recall correctly they're empty and capped up on the intakes and afterburners.

Shay, isnt that where the Air Force has their Security Forces training? Perimeter guarding?

Yes it is. It's on the Southside of the base right near the 331st BMTS "Disneyland"

Yes they were taken in 1994 just shortly after my graduation from Boot. I ran by those F-105s ALOT for PT while I was there.

The F-105s are still there. More recent pictures have been posted here on WIX.

In fact one of those F-105s the "Red River Queen" was just released from the line, back in April, to be put on display in a Memorial park up north.

Jim,

Do you possibly have any updated pictures of the A-36 progress?

The Foundation is doing some exciting "wheeling and dealing" that may or may not come to fruition. Can I be any more vague...you bet. The F-105 is priority right now and it will be a two place machine. Flight training I'm sure will be available just like the F-4 and the A-4. The A-36 is progressing at a fantastic pace and will surely be an award winning restoration, and the Huey has hovered. The ME-262 program will be unfolding within the next year or so and there are quite possibly more additions to be made. The Bombers remain the flagships and we will be starting in Florida on January 19th.

This past year if it did happen .. am checking on it ... I could be mistaken but thought they had been replaced .. Just as the F-4's on poles were replaced at Wright Pat with a F-15 & 16 ...

That's a cry'n shame if that's true.

GOOGLE Earth shows 2006 images with the THUDs still in place.

What are the chances of Cavanaugh's Thud ever flying again?

Since it isn't actually a Cavanaugh aircraft, we have very little say in whether or not it will ever fly again, unless there were some ownership/custody changes.

The aircraft (an F-105F) is just being displayed as static by the museum on behalf of the Frontiers of Flight museum, who have it on loan from NMUSAF. Powerplant has been removed, and it would probably require some serious airframe work if it was to stand any chance of flying again.

Sure...go to webshots and look in the Second National Tour 2006 Album. Webshots albums only hold 100 photos each so I end up making a 2nd album for each season. You can also compare the progress to the 2005 album. American Aero usually updates thier site frequently as well, www.americanaeroservices.com

It would be awesome achievement for the Collings Found. to get a 'Thud' back in the air again at some time in the future, make a great 'USAF pairs' demo team with the F-4.

Now.........what about a F-8 Crusader next to keep the A-4 company as a 'USN/USMC pairs' demo.......... 8) 8)

I believe the change of WPAFB's Gate Guards was the personal decision of the Base commander and his staff not reflected USAF wide. Just as all the Gate Guards at Langley AFB(except the F-4C) are painted in Air Supiority Gray instead of in each type's respective paint scheme.

Even though the aircraft are managed by the NMUSAF each base has the final word as to what is done.

On side note:

Do you think the Collins Foundation would opt for any of these paint schemes?

"kittie Galore II"

What? Too mild you say? I think they would be a big hit on the air show circuit.

In regardsto the F-8 - Shay, did you know that Paul Allen's FHC has an F-8? I have heard rumblings that it is already a flyer.
