Another interesting bit of MCO trivia, before it was McCoy AFB it was the Pinecastle Army Air Field, in WWII the USAAF's School of Applied Tactics AND the site of the very FIRST X-1 flights, all unpowered drops but the first flights by Bell before it went to Muroc AAF for the powered flights.
