A rare aircraft, the version shown, with a rare engine. Normally had a turbine in it. Nice to see it preserved at RNAS Yeovilton Museum, United Kingdom, which is a Museum well worth visiting.

Ah the Westland Wyvern!!!!! It was plagued by engine and prop problems.
I attended a talk by the display pilot "Dizzy" Addicote years back. He remembers ferrying one of these to the scrap yard. A fellow pilot told him that after he landed it, he should write the entry in his log book in red pen and put "I flew the Wyvern and survived!!!" in the notes coloum.

Very rare, in fact, the only survivor. Probably why there's not much written about them.
The production versions saw action in Suez in 1956 - sadly, none survive in service configuration.

WOW------contra-rotating EIGHT blade prop! I am not familiar with this aircraft, what is type of engine is it powered by?

This is a prototype, powered by a 24-cylinder sleeve-valve Rolls-Royce Eagle. Production versions were powered by an Armstrong Siddeley Python turboprop engine.

I was going to say the same thing! Lots o sparkin plugs and exhaustin stacks!

Yeah, I was hoping to get our "colonial cousins" guessing for a bit on this one.
The only one left, shame it isn't seen in the air again but if it was that much of a pig to fly I'm not suprised!
