I know in past in USA there has been P-51 and F-4U meets and gatherings and other types?

Why not create a Korean War flyin or gathering.. bring as many flyable Korean war type warbirds into a massive airshow or start a airshow on that theme?

Im sure someone in US could do this in time.

How about it?

and once Korea done , start a Vietnam airshow theme ..

Cmon promote the 2 wars .. and show off the warbirds..

Who knows the idea might catch on well

Sounds good to me. Might be a little more expensive with all that Jet A but with a few good corporate sponsors, anything is possible. Also, location might be critical. No downtown airports. There just might be a noise complaint or two and sponsors wouldn't care much for that. CAF Had some Vietnam stuff this year and that might be the way to go. Have an established event such as this or YAF, EAA to host it. It think the Korean and Vietnam guys have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to honoring their deeds simply because the "wars" were fought to maintain the status quo, not win. Sure makes me want to get our MiG-15 flying.

Let me play "devil's advocate" here for a moment.
1) From Korea, There are lots of P-51s available but how many F-80s, F-84s, F-86s, and MiG 15s are flyable?
2) From VN, other than the Skyraiders and observation a/c, how many F-4s, F-8s, A6s, MiG 17s and 21s are airworthy?

Just something to ponder.

Mudge the devil

Mudge--

Indeed, an interesting poser!

Korea: P-80s, F-84s, F2Hs, you're right: none flying. But your mention of Mustangs is the tip of that particular iceberg...Many Mustangs, many of the surviving later mark Corsairs, several Skyraiders, and several A-26s wear Korea-period finish; and of course there are the F-86s and MiG/Lim series. Might be a Panther out there still too? The C-54 currently featured on another thread commemorates the Berlin Airlift...but there was a Korean Airlift too. There are at least a couple Texans flying in LT-6G "Mosquito" livery. And any number of postwar L-birds about. Beyond that, and this'd be my favourite aspect  , there are the RN/RAN types that saw action over Korea--Sea Furies and Fireflies. Some of each are available in North America too.

Vietnam: This has indeed been done already to an extent at a number of airshows; and notably there's the group in Minnesota who have the collection of OV-1 Mohawks; there's the Beaver Falls outfit in PA with their C-123 and OV-1s; and there's a group in Georgia with a C-7A Caribou and several helicopters...Add in some O-1s and O-2s, some "Sandy"-liveried Skyraiders, a couple A-4s and MiG-17s, a Herc, and a Phantom or two (they're around...) and of course a flyover appearance by a still-operational B-52, and you have the makings of a fine Vietnam tribute, especially if your venue possesses, say, an A-6 and an F-105 on static.

Either one sounds like a superb lineup. How 'bout it?

S.

Steve...Thanks for the detailed info. You're right, with those participants it turns into a pretty good idea.
Plus...I learned something today.

Mudge the educable
