F-105 to Evergreen

I have heard that the AMARC F-105, the last one being stored there, is being shipped to Evergreen tomorrow. I also heard that Colllings were after this particular aircraft so that it could join their airworthy aircraft which have been so successfully returned to the air.

It appears that the National Museum of the United States Air Force, or at least someone there, did everything in their power to PREVENT this from going ahead. Now all I can go on is what I have heard unofficially but if this is true I think that it is sad that someone in an organisation whose mission it is to preserve the heritage of the US Air Force could spend so much time trying to prevent Collings obtain this aircraft. Collings have a great history of doing this type of restoration successfully and professionally why would someone at the NMUSAF want to put a block on this happening?

There are plenty of other F-105s being displayed under NMUSAF control, why not give Evergreen one of those for static display? Anyone out there who knows more? Is there anyone here who is at the NMUSAF who can add more information? Is this all part of the stopping private ownership of jet combat aircraft?

Well, Evergreen is well entrenched in Gov't. and State Dept. operations.

Maybe Evergreen's going to convert it to a firebomber to complement their 747 conversion.

Hold on, are you guys saying that Evergreen and the CIA are somehow related? If that's true then I must have been a secret agent while I worked there, so secret that they did not even tell me. Wow, that's secret.

Ok I am not a conspiracy head....but

All I know is; a fellow I have known for many years and who has seen both the black and white elephants...
Remember when they were trying to figure out what caused the TWA Flight 800 disaster? and they were flying the profiles with another 747? When they showed a picture in the newspaper one morning of the 747 doing the test...I was with my friend, when he saw the picture of the Evergreen 747 doing the tests...he had an immediate gut wrenching laugh....

plus...CIA airfield in Marana, Ariz., now the Evergreen Air Center; it was an Evergreen DC-8 that flew the deposed Shah of Iran from Panama to the relative safety of Cairo; it also allowed El Salvador's President Duarte to use its helicopter; and the B-17 they own is none other than the "Shady Lady" of Skyhook fame herself!

Kinda cool if you ask me!

I remember Flight 800. That is the 747 that exploded due to a wiring problem in the center fuel tank. Apperently the wiring problem occurred when the wire was struck by a missle.

Does anyone here have any experience in how long the NMUSAF takes to allocate, demil, and transfer an airframe for static display once the request is put in ?

Yeah, depending on what it is, and how bad they want to tansfer it, it can take less than 30 days.

Well, apparently they wanted to transfer this one REAl bad ! The rear motor mounts were cut last week. The airplane was supposed to be handed over yesterday, Friday, Dec 22.
