I was going through my old photo albums and decided to share a few pics that were taken at Oshkosh in either 85 or 86 (can't quite remember after all these years). Sorry about the poor quality...I was only 16 years old at the time. Enjoy!

P-47 "Little Demon"






This pyro shot was probably taken in 80 or 81 when "Fifi" was doing one of her mock bombing runs.


This Corsair was sitting out by the Warbirds cafe...anybody know who owns it now?








Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is "Aluminum Overcast"


Appears to be a replica fiberglass turret (note the strange looking trunnion support brackets)

Excellent pics, John. Seeing that pic makes me sorry that it looks like Little Demon is going to be repainted, as I think that is the nicest paint job ever put on an airworthy P-47.



EAA. It had been donated by Connie Edwards a few years before. EAA restored it, flew it for a few years, and you can see it in their museum now.





You're right, this is what it said on the other side of the nose.

Glad people kept all these old pics.

Yes, it went there, now it is back in the US for some work, and it will be going back again, but the paint is already stripped I believe.

Nothing wrong with the quality of those shots mate! Did your interest in ball turrets start then or earlier?
Nice to see pictures of "The rocket" (Concorde) too

Thanks for the kind words...for a 16 year old I guess the pics aren't too bad now that I look at them again. I was born in Oshkosh and lived there into my teens. My grandmother volunteered at the airshow every year and was one of those grey haired old ladies working at the flight pass ticket booth. For the whole week me and my two brothers got free run of the place which is definately where my warbird interest started.

I was always fascinated with the WWII bombers and the numerous gun turrets which is also why I've always been interested in the lower ball turret. I had the pleasure of speaking to a few ball turret vets and their stories are truly amazing. It took a lot guts to "fly the ball" and I hope to some day complete my restoration project so that others can see how these guys fought.

Man, i just love the razorback P-47's...they were such a tough looking bird. Same with the P-51B. The bubble canopies were better for a lot of reasons, but there's just something about those early models that appeals to me. It looks like they "mean buisness" more.
