Here is mine, Mike Potter's P-51 Mustang. Great aircraft and really nice to see one done in Canadian WWII colours. Post away.

I'll second that, nice to see a P51 in Canadian colours. Mine you Spitfire SL721 is very impressive.

If the second Hurricane goes through with the scheme that is being discussed, I believe it will make a big impact on the Warbird scene.

Cheers Dave C

I would have to say the P51D RedDog (Midwest Aero's Restoration) and Ron Fagen's P40K take the cake :D

My fave from this year would definitely be the new Seafire XVII flying in the UK, and I love the paint scheme too.

If we are just talking repaints, I'll agree with Potter's Mustang.

Glad that Planes of Fame's P-51A lost the tired old British scheme in 2006.

This is my favorite though:

Tom Blair's Mk V Spitfire, in Mediterranean livery, at Duxford some weeks prior to its first post restoration flight on 2nd November 2006.

The Spitfire, ex 79 Squadron RAAF, was recovered as a wreck from Kiriwina Island in New Guinea in the 1970's, with initial restoration undertaken in New Zealand.

'T-B' represents a Mk V of 249 Squadron RAF operating out of Malta.

Howdy all

I just hope that A58-178 (JG891) will one day be painted back in its correct colors/markings as "UP-G" with the Tasmanian devil 'nose art'.
Im sure this will then honour its original 79 Sqdn pilots F Sgts George Gilbert and Dudley Grinlington.

Lightning,

Believe me...I tried. However nothing stays the same for ever

George Gilbert, whose personal aircraft this was, was fully in the loop re the livery. I sent George images of the first flight.

Would you know if Dudley Grinlington is still with us as I haven't been in touch with him for more than ten years?

Howdy Peter

Thankyou for the information
Yes you are right !

Have you tried the Australian Spitfire Association or RSL ?
Im not sure if 79 Sqdn Association is still around, I think I read a few years back that all of the Veterans were moving over to the Australian Spitfire Association because of falling numbers.

Ron Fagens P-40 has my vote. "23 Skidoo" looks pretty good as well.

Peter, I agree the Seafire is pretty keen. Funny, it is mostly two colors, a bluish gray, and the sort of seasick greenish gray, neither of which is really outstanding alone, but together it looks right. I generally prefer the earlier stlye Spitfire canopy, rather than the long streamlined one, but again on this plane it all looks right. I'd love to fly it off a real carrier. I think I'll leave bringing it back aboard to someone braver, though. If I had my choice of a few more planes and schemes, I'd like to have a MkV or maybe a IX in stars and bars markings, also a 51 in RAF or RCAF or maybe good Cavalier type scheme. Where is your former Mk XII?

Bill,

Although I did rescue and own the Seafire XVII's SX336 & SX300 back in the 1970's, this is not the Seafire you will have seen at my home. That was Seafire 46 LA564. The Mk 46 and the Mk XII were sold about five years ago to a UK party under a signed confidentiality agreement, which remarkably is still holding strong. I am hopeful of some change in that situation in the near future.
