Nazi flown p-47's ??

Supposedly the P-38 in question was shot down by a YB-40 that flew on that particular mission with the intent of shooting down the Italian P-38.

As for friendly fire, some years ago I was invited to fly an airshow, I think it was Hastings, Neb. The weather was rainy and there was time to talk to the veterans. One vet was an army guy, and his group had been strafed with numerous fatalities by mistake by I think P-47s. One of the pilots was also at the show. The mistake came from some ground banner marking problem, the pilots were told one thing and the army got a different message. The pilot had carried the guilt all these years, but the uite ground guy understood and totally forgave him. It was quite an emotional time.

I had a friend, Werner Seitz, who was with Kg 200. That was the experimental squadron and he flew the P47 to see it's abilities. He said the best thing about the P47 " You just drop the nose and boy she go" You would have to imagine his German accent when he said that. He flew a lot of aircraft and said the P47 was his favorite. I guess he never flew the F4U.

interesting perspective from the ww 2 competition commenting on our aircraft's flying characteristics. any more?? how about from the japanese perspective?? the japanese captured a ton of our planes & tested them.

Roach and Kossack were both lost due to running out of fuel on 7 November 1943 mission. Both landed in Belgium

Kossack belly landed YFX (42-8477) NW Liege - actually in good shape, don't know why it wasn't part of Rosarius Zirkus like YFU

Roach landed YF-U 42-22490 wheels down in Chaam near Breda about 30 mi NW of Kossack. Chaam about 30 miles NE of Antwerp

YF-U restored to USAAF markings and used for German propaganda film, then received LW codes and colors and toured German fighter fields to teach LW about P-47D's
