This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I remember seeing the bear suit story on television. It was many years ago when my kids still lived at home. We sat and howled, it was hilarious. If I recall correctly one the pretest requirements was the ability to stand up to repeated whacks with a baseball bat!

Jeep Guy - that was certainly the video - four hours covered in butter? - that does make this other fellow "interesting" to say the least. FYI, my first "car" was a 1942 Ford jeep that my Dad bought for hunting and fishing and I learned to drive when I was 12 and drove it to school later for a couple of years. All the best.

The WIX site is usually a place of varied and frequently strong opinons. We've got radial guys, Merlin guys, generic Merlins, Allisons,. We got jet pilots, bomber fans, Spit lovers, even those who think T-28s are cute. We got Hillary haters, Bush bashers, military marchers, peace proponents, and some who probably don't care either way. But The Defender video is one thing 100% of guys seem to agree on; that's better than Saddams reelection total! So I ordered it!

I mean like what the h*ll
The nuts were there but I never saw a squirrell.
Nitwit #2 pushing mowing the runway and chasing the cows with
his 'tank' takes the cake.

Several Airsho's ago the Snowbirds were our featured act, and, as they are very nice guys, we invited them over to Randy Wilson's house to see the Defender. None of them had seen it, but several had heard about it....I remember sitting in a chair watching as "Boss" turned to his wingie (we were about ten minutes into the movie) and said "My God, I hope they don't think all of us from Canada are like that! We gotta keep this secret!" The tank scene with "Kato" appearing, the bathroom scales as "precision instruments" for measuring lift, the scene with the Canadian FAA....they laughed and laughed and laughed.
Glad others are discovering this classic.

Does anyone have a decent digital picture of the Defender that they could send to me? Even a screen capture would do...
Thanks!

"It needs to be more laminar..." & "Someone is clearly sabotaging the enemy airplane."
Probably the best aviation cult documentary of all time!

Ryan - here are two captures from The Defender of the aircraft itself, trying to fly. Of course, Chase One is right with him in the second shot.
Oh, here is an earlier design that proved laterally unstable, it seems. Imagine that.

I would say its the same guy who you guys mentioned who made the bear suit,he is now working on a suit of armour intended for the military:

He's a bit out there, although it would be good if it works as advertised!

saberdriver - you have just got to see the video - short answer is basically no, these two never flew. The crash of the earlier design is discussed in the film but there is only the still image of it, I think. The Defender design is shown trying to fly in the movie on a couple of occasions. There is another design shown in the workstop at the end of the movie - the one that would have a permanently inflated airbag in the nose! Fly safe.
