In other words, you'll have a great time.

Please keep us informed of your progress.

WOW...youse troops are awesome. :D
Thanks for the info and the encouragement.
As far as headsets go, I'm looking at a couple. The David Clark H10-60 and the Telex Stratus 50 Digital. I know the Telex is a bit pricey but, what the heck, ain't that why I send Mrs. Mudge to work every day?
Thanks again for the help.

Mudge the grateful

Mudge,I spoke to AV ed if that's the one, it sounds pretty good. Which plane is best? The Diamond is Least like a warbird, might be cheap and easy, I've never flown it. The Warrior is Most like a warbird with its low wings, and may fit you better, but be the most expensive. I like the 152 handling a little better than the 172 and it is cheaper if you can fit in it. The 172 has few surprises, either good or bad. Take the one you are going to stick with and which is not always booked up. Oh-- important, if you buy their Cessna pilot kit it has the interactive DVD with it to save you some time for the written. I would prefer that over anybody's book. Let us know how it goes, the first 10 hours or so is really when you learn to fly, before you get into weather, navigation, regs. etc.

I don't have any experience with the flight school, but the Airport Manager, Renny Manuel, and all of her staff, including the fella on the flightline, whose name escapes me now, are really really great people.

I also wouldnt hesistate to get involved with the EAA Chapter 186 there at Winchester. Another group of really great people to be around!

Winchester, Virginia, eh?

Ask the folks at the FBO if they remember the Canucks who flew in with a German airplane and ended up stuck for a few days back in 2002.

 8)
Hey Mudge, how about daily or semi-daily updates as your flying progresses, even if it is in the "Off Topic" area? I could be wrong here, but I would think that the WIXers might like a thread that has frequent updates of the ups and downs (no pun intended) on a project like that.

Gary
nice bit o' payback there gary! :P

Mudge,

I've had a David Clark H10-30 for more than 20 years now, and the only thing I've had to do to it is replace the ear seals. It's been a great one, and is still relatively inexpensive. It's worked in every plane I've tried it in.
